“I grew up as an athlete. I would have called myself a Christian, but I was secluded with my faith. My family didn’t go to church. All my tournaments were on the weekends. Church was a casual thing for me. I ended up playing baseball in college. Throughout college, I would go to Bible studies with my teammates. A couple of my friends went to Citylight Lincoln. Once I started to get involved with church and Bible studies and community, I started to see a completely different side of life. My eyes were opened and I wanted to take the next step. I thought I didn’t deserve to be baptized. The baptism class helped me see my deserving didn’t matter. The reality is I don’t deserve God’s love or forgiveness. But through Jesus I am secure. I knew I wanted to get baptized to show this and celebrate this.

Jesus saved me from self-doubt. He surrounded me with amazing people. Growing up, my choices were not the best and I wasn't surrounded by faithful friends. I made poor choices. God gave me a fresh start in Nebraska when I came here for college. My life didn’t just change because of random events. It was Jesus. I don’t have to doubt myself but instead give all of myself to Him and enjoy my life. Now, as a teacher and coach, God has given me an opportunity to share and take care of the next generation. Meeting my fiancé, he showed me a tangible sign of love. She is my partner and my best friend. These are the kind of opportunities I thought I didn’t deserve before Jesus. Now, I am grateful and happy, and I can be because of Jesus.
I want to thank my family being there during the highs and lows in my life. I have had a wonderful support system with my mom and dad and today with my friends and my fiancé. They have been a huge part of this journey.
Today, I know I am not in control and now I can be the person God has made to be... Loving, kind and patient. I am grateful for this opportunity to be baptized.” – Jason English
