The Lord is on the move! Is that too cliche of an introduction? Seriously though, He is, and guess where He’s been moving? College students. That’s right, the next generation, here in Omaha at Citylight, is being changed by the gospel!
On January 3rd, two hundred college students from the greater Omaha area drove to the promised land of Des Moines, Iowa to meet with five thousand other college students from across the country. Packing the Iowa Events Center, students eagerly came with expectations to encounter Jesus. Over the next three days, sermons were preached, worship was sung, sin was confessed, students were prayed over, and lifetime memories were made. It’s hard to describe how powerful the presence of the Holy Spirit was in the room, but I feel like Kaitlyn described it well.
Kaitlin Lynch, a freshmen at Creighton University, said
“My highlight from conference was standing on the bleachers worshipping and looking in front of me all of my peers falling down in worship. This was the moment I felt the Lord’s presence and was smiling so hard my cheeks hurt. To see college students face down on the floor crying out with their whole bodies to the Lord is such a beautiful image. The act of complete submission to Jesus is something that God is stirring up in the hearts of college students nationwide! When the Spirit comes, you can’t help but be so joyful that your cheeks hurt and so humbled that you physically bow down in worship.”
In the span of 50 hours, lives were transformed and changed forever as they knew them, and Omaha is reaping the effects of it today! Our cry for laborers to be reached up to enter into the college harvest is being answered, and we couldn’t be more excited for what is to come.
Isaiah Brown, a sophomore at University of Nebraska Omaha, said
“Conference challenged me to actually go to campus more and make friends with people who don’t believe. There’s thousands of college students on campus who need Jesus. The harvest is abundant but the workers are few. There’s people out there who are ready to receive Christ; they just need people to lead them to the truth. God is changing hearts and leading students to see their education as a missional opportunity to reach their peers with the Gospel. Isaiah walked away with the lingering question “What if we were people who let the Word dwell among us richly?”
Jesus, would you allow the Word to dwell richly among college students in Omaha and change the landscape of the college campuses as we know them forever as a result?
This past week, Isaiah and a handful of others from Creighton and UNO rose before dawn to cry out to Jesus with the plea of saving more students on campus; revival can start now, and students are actively seeking Jesus to start it now. Kaitlyn said
“My biggest takeaway from conference is to have a relationship with my heavenly Father through prayer … the conference helped me to recognize what a gift prayer is, that it is providing us a relationship with our very Creator. I now view prayer as an opportunity to communicate with the one who made me, the one who knows me, and the one who loves me.”
Would you join us in praying for revival of hearts on Creighton and UNO?
There is something so sweet and so special about watching God meet people in powerful ways. The best part, in my humble opinion, is when they walk away forever changed and actively desire to live differently as a result.
Jesus, thank you for what you did at Salt Conference and in the lives of college students across the country and here in Omaha. You have always been in the business of changing hearts and bringing the dead back to life, and this semester, as students begin to share their faith with their friends, would you continue to change hearts and bring the dead to life? Let your kingdom come and your will be done on college campuses in Omaha as it is in Heaven.
