The mission of Citylight Omaha is to multiply disciples and churches. We do this primarily by gathering and scattering. We GATHER on Sunday mornings and SCATTER throughout the city in groups. These missional groups, City Groups, are made up of Christ followers who meet in all kinds of homes and spaces. Citylight Church wants everyone to be a part of a City Group to experience the family of God in real ways and continually grow as disciples who love Jesus and love one another more every day.
One Citylight member, Laura Thompson, joined a City Group for the first time with her husband a few years ago. Since then, she has experienced deeper connections with the family of God and with Jesus. Her perspective, faith and understanding of herself and who God is has grown and strengthened. Recently, God gave Laura an opportunity to see and experience His goodness even more through the women in her City Group. Laura shared the following with our church.
“The women in my City Group have a text thread that we use to share prayer requests. The other morning one of the women texted that her daughter, who has had some health problems, was experiencing a lot of pain. We all responded that we would be praying for her. She had already scheduled a doctor’s appointment, but it wasn’t until March. So, we prayed and shared our prayers in the text. Not long after that the clinic called her and said there was a cancellation. But it still wasn’t until the beginning of February. One of the other women in our City Group said that she would pray that they would have a cancellation sooner than that. I felt like that was a lot to ask. But, God. I am so thankful she prayed boldly and with faith for that. Within an hour, the mom with the sick daughter sent us a screen shot that the doctor contacted her and said they could get her daughter in the very next day!
This whole experience showed me such encouragement. God hears our prayers! It made me think of the passage in the book of Hosea that says “As surely as the sun rises, he will appear.” I thought and said to God thank you for always being there and walking with us every day. As much as it was an answered prayer for the mom in our City Group, it was proof and a testament to me that he hears our prayers and walks with us and is faithful and trustworthy.
I am so thankful for the women in my City Group. They are faithful and share their faith with one another. They encourage everyone and are always there for me. Our City Group is powerful in that we communicate outside of our weekly meetings. They are available whenever something comes up and for our prayer needs. We regularly put one another’s focus on Jesus and His power, and we are reminded that He is working in our lives. Jesus is our cornerstone. Jesus is our solid foundation, and these faithful women point me to Him. I encourage everyone to get in a City Group. We need each other. City Groups are a great way to get to know people and on a deeper level.”
