This past Sunday at our Midtown location, our church family celebrated publicly the free gift of salvation through Christ with 35 people getting baptized. We heard stories of lives saved and changed by Jesus. One story was from Bridget and we thank God for what he did for her.
"I grew up in a Christian household and I was taught all the biblical principles. As I was growing up and learning all about Jesus, I decided to give my life to Christ when I was four. I started attending a Christian school in sixth grade and I was hearing about God and Christians. As the years went on, I was growing up but not growing in Jesus. I was drifting away from the Lord and his church. Even though I was at a Christian school I was not following the ways of God but instead following the ways of the world. I would tell people I got scheduled to work over church when that was not the case. I was focused on myself and spending time pursuing relationships with guys instead on prioritizing my relationship with Jesus.
At the end of my junior year we had a school service day. Going into it I was going through the motions to get it over. As we served that day I got the opportunity to tell some people about the good news of Jesus and how he died on the cross for us. Sharing about Jesus with strangers was terrifying. I didn't feel like I had the words but as I began telling them about the gospel, my heart was softened and I experienced God in a way I never felt before. He gave me words that day and I felt like he was speaking right through me. It was a new peace that I never felt before and I realized I had a true genuine friend right beside me.
From that day on I have seen God next to me and working through me. There have been difficult days but when those happen I feel a sense of joy to know that he's right there beside me and helping me through it. My identity is in Christ and not in relationships or living for myself. I am getting baptized because I have put my faith in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and I am ready to proclaim that!" - Bridget Townsend
Bridget is my granddaughter and I’m so proud of the path she is choosing! I felt blessed to be there in the second row watching her give her life to Jesus!
Thank you Citylight for being a church that preaches biblical truth and being an important part in two of my granddaughter’s stories!
